Practical tips for Dakhla
- Constant strong wind: park facing the wind, open doors on the sheltered side
- Sand on the road: slow down in dips
- Few petrol stations: fill up in Dakhla city
- Gendarmerie checks at the entrance to the peninsula: have your passport ready
- Weak mobile signal as soon as you leave the main road
- Bring water and snacks for any trip longer than 2 hours
Off-roading
The tracks to the White Dune and Asmaa hot springs become sandy in places. A proper 4x4 (like a Land Cruiser) is strongly recommended. Ideally, hire with a driver if you have no experience driving in the dunes.
